CXR Flashcards
1
Q
lobar collapse on CXR
A
trachea + mediastinum deviated towards
elevated hemidiaphragm
2
Q
how do the middle + lower lobe look if upper lobe collapsed?
A
may be hyperextended - to fill the space left behind by the collapse - appear more black
3
Q
common causes of lobar collapse
A
lung cancer
asthma (mucuous plugging)
foreign body
4
Q
what are the differentials for white shadowing in the lungs?
A
consolidation (tissue filled with fluid instead of air - PO, inflam exudate, pus, inhaled water, blood from bronchial tree or haemorrhage from pulmonary artery) pleural effusion collapse pneumonectomy tumours
5
Q
differentials for white-out of hemithorax
A
trachea towards - pneumonectomy, complete collapse, hypoplasia
trachea central - consolidation, pulmonary oedema, mesothelioma
trachea away - effusion, diaphragmatic hernia, large mass
