CVS - Internal Features of Heart Flashcards
the heart is divided into 4 chambers by:
interatrial septum
interventricular septum
atrioventricular
what kind of chamber is RA?
a thin-walled chamber
where does the right atrium receive blood from?
SVC, IVC, coronary sinus
name the features of RA
fossa ovalis is a shallow depression in the interatrial septum, it is a remnant of foramen ovale.
name the special features of heart wall
pectinate muscles papillary muscles chordae tendineae trabeculae carneae fossa ovalis
explain/define the special features of heart wall
pectinate muscles: muscular ridges of RA wall
papillary muscles: cone shaped attached to chordae tendineae
trabeculae carneae: muscles ridges of ventricular wall
fossa ovalis: shallow depression in interatrial septum
where is and what does right atrioventricular valve consist of?
at opening between RA & RV
consist of cusp - 3 fibrous flaps aka tricuspid valve
where and how does the RV pump blood?
RV pumps blood into PT, through pulmonary semilunar valve, w papillary muscles - conical muscles projections from inner surface of ventricular
where is pulmonary semilunar valve located at?
at beginning of pulmonary trunk
what does the pulmonary semilunar valve do and consist of?
it prevents backflow of blood into right ventricle.
it consist of 3 semilunar cusps
what kind of chamber is the left atrium?
thin walled chamber
what does the LA consist of and do?
it consist of auricle.
it receives blood from 2L & 2R pulmonary veins, directs blood into LV thru the left atrioventricular valve
what does the left atrioventricular valve consist of and do?
consist of 2 cusps - aka bicuspid valve, mitral valve
it prevents backflow of blood into LA
is left ventricle larger or smaller than right ventricle?
larger
what is the difference between LV & RV?
RV wall is relatively thin
LV wall is 3x thicker on x-section
