CVS - Anatomy of Heart Flashcards
what are the chambers of heart ? explain how they work.
the chambers are left atrium, right atrium, left ventricle, right ventricle.
the RA receives blood from systematic circulation and passes to RV, RV pumps blood to pulmonary circulation, LA collects blood from pulmonary circulation and passes to LV, LV pumps blood to the systematic circulation (repeat)
where is the location of the heart?
within the pericardial cavity of mediastinum, posterior to sternum.
what is pericardium? what is its function?
the lining of pericardial cavity.
it restricts excessive movements of the heart & acts as a lubricated container
what does CVS do?
provide efficient & extensive transport mechanism ensuring proper distribution of oxygen & nutrients, removal of waste
what does the pericardium consist of?
fibrous pericardium - outer part of pericardial sac
serous pericardium - has parietal pericardium (lines fibrous pericardium) & visceral pericardium (epicardium).
