CVD risk assessment and prevention Flashcards
what is CVD
group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels caused by atherosclerosis and thrombosis
includes CHD, stroke, PAD, aortic disease
risk of CVD is greater in men or women
men
which ethnic background is CVD risk greater in
south asians
what age is CVD risk greater in
patients aged over 50 years and increases with age; patients aged 85 years and over are at particularly high risk
risk assessment with a calculator is not required in pt who are at increased or high risk of CVD. this includes the following (5)
established CVD
CKD stage 3 or higher (<60)
albuminuria
familial hyperchoelsterolaemia
T1D
CVD risk may be underestimated in (3)
patients who are already taking antihypertensives or lipid-regulating drugs, or who have recently stopped smoking
Standard risk scores may be underestimated in patients with additional risk due to existing conditions or medications that can cause dyslipidaemia (3)
antipsychotics
CCs
immunosuppressants
patient has 10% or greater 10 year risk of developing CVD or they have CKD. what do you recommend.
atorv 20mg primary prevention
anti platelet therapy with 75mg aspirin daily should be offered to which pt
established atherosclerotic disease.
Alternatively, clopidogrel can be considered in patients who are intolerant to aspirin or in whom it is contraindicated.
…… is recommended in combination with a statin for patients with established CVD who have a raised fasting triglyceride concentration of 1.7 mmol/litre or above, and a LDL-cholesterol concentration above 1.04 mmol/litre and below or equal to 2.6 mmol/litre.
