CVCS Charging Flashcards
Describe the TRM LCO 3.1.103 CHPs Operating
Required in M1-4, it states that you must have a way to inject (-) reactivity int ot he core and shall be FUNCTIONAL.
Must have the following:
Borated water sources
charging pumps
separate flowpaths
power from DG
CH-501.
When above 210F, must have 2 separate systems in case one fails.
What is the purpose of the CH pump Seal water system?
Prolongs life of CHP packing. Prevents RCS from leaking out of pump seals.
How long can the CHP run without seal water?
up to 50 hours.
When does the CHP seal water pump auto start?
How is it normally operated on CHP start?
auto starts on CHP start.
Normally run for > 10 minutes prior to CHP start.
What is the purpose of the CHP suction stabililzers?
What is the OE on a ruptured bladder?
Absorbs pressure surges in pump suction.
pressurized by N2 to 19psig.
A ruptured bladder has caused gas binding of CHPs
What is the purpose of the CHP lube oil system?
What is the alarm setpoint? Trip setpoint?
Shaft driven pump to lube the CHP internals.
< 18psig. no trip.
What is the purpose of the CHP disch pulsation damper?
1500psig N2 charged bladder used to absorb pressure surges in disch piping.
Describe the operation of the CH pumps including pwr supplies, and normal operating conditions.
Positive displacement pumps that provide 44 gpm at 2375 psig.
CHA: PGA-L31
CHB: PGB-L32
CHE: PGA-L35 or PGB-L36
What happens to the CHPs at 13 psia suction pressure?
How is CHP operation restored?
Low suction pressure trip to protect against cavitation.
Once reset, the operator must clear the antipump to allow PPLCS to restart the pumps.
How will CHP operation be affected by a Green Flag?
If the pump is started from PLCS and subsequently trips, the pump will be antipumped.
What are the red and green lights on the CHPs?
What is their power supply?
PLCS signals to the pump, not actual operational status
Lights are powered from PK.
Which trips will be available if the CHB-P01 local/remote switch is in LOCAL?
Only the low suction pressure and overload trips will work.
What does the Red Flag mean on a CHP?
NO PLCS control; still responds to low suction, overload and load shed signals.
What happens to the ALWAYS RUNNING pump on the following:
- LOP
- LOOP
- SIAS
- LOP w/SIAS
- LOOP w/SIAS
- LOP- antipumped due to locked in start from NKN D42
- LOOP- antipumped due to locked in start from NKN D42
- SIAS- nada
- LOP w/ SIAS- LS from LOP; will restart after 40 sec if needed by PLCS
- LOOP w/ SIAS- LS from LOP; will restart after 40 sec if needed by PLCS
What happens to the NORMALLY RUNNING pump on the following:
- LOP
- LOOP
- SIAS
- LOPw/ SIAS
- LOOPw/ SIAS
- LOP- Antipumped due to locked in start from PLCS since NNN D11 never lost
- LOOP- Will restart as needed by PLCS since NNN D11 lost power and removed sart signal
- SIAS- Nada
- LOP w/ SIAS- LS from LOP but will restart due to SIAS in 40 sec if needed.
- LOOP w/ SIAS- LS from LOP but will restart due to SIAS in 40 sec if needed.
