CV system: vessels & heart physiology (practicum 1) Flashcards
what is systolic pressure?
max. pressure in an artery during ventricular contraction
what is diastolic pressure?
min. pressure in an artery during ventricular relaxation
what are korotkoff sounds?
sounds heard from an artery as pressure is applied by sphygmomanometer below systolic pressue
what is a sphygmomanometer?
BP cuff
what is hypertension?
high BP, over 130/90
what is hypotension?
low BP, less than 90/60
determine the effect of the body position and exercise on blood pressure
> increased BP helps ensure muscle tissue has adequate blood supply during exercise, when exercise is over the oxy. demand goes down
> BP would decrease when lying down
what is the “lubb” sounds?
closing of 2 AV valves at the start of ventricular systole (contraction)
what is the “dubb” sound?
closing of 2 SL valves at the start of ventricular diastole (relaxation)
where is the first heart sound heard?
at the apex in the L. AV valve area
where is the second heart sound heard?
at the base in the aoritc area (pulm. SL valve)
where do abnormal heart sounds occur?
pulmonary SL valves or aortic SL valves
what is an ECG?
an interpretation of the electrical activity (depolarization & repolarization) of the heart over a period of time
what is happening with the heart during P-wave?
depolarization of atrial fibers at SA node
what is happening with the heart during QRS complex?
depolarization of ventricular fibers
