CV System Flashcards
1
Q
Function
A
Transportation via blood
- nutrients
- O2, CO2
- cell waste
- hormones
2
Q
Heart
A
- size of a fist
- weighs less than a pound
- pumps almost 6L/min
- within the mediastinum, containing the heart, trachea, large blood vessels
3
Q
Transportation force
A
-provided by the heart beating and blood pressure
4
Q
Blood Vessels
A
- closed System: vascular System
- composed of arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, veins
- blood circulates in blood vessels
5
Q
Taking a pulse
A
- find an artery close to the surface and compress it against a firm surface
- pulse: waves of BP travelling through arteries
- pulse points = pressure points
6
Q
Fetal circulation
A
- due to non-functional lungs, digestive System
- blood largely bypass pulmonary circuit
- nutrients and wastes exchanged across placenta
- umbilical cord has three blood vessels (veins, arteries, ductus venosus)
7
Q
Umbilical cord vessels
A
- veins (nutrients and O2 to fetus)
- arteries (wastes and CO2 to the placenta)
- ductus venosus (live bypass to inferior vena cava)
