What is cutaneous vasculitis?
Inflammation of the small blood vessels in the skin characterised by palpable purpura
What are the potential causes of cutaneous vasculitis?
Idiopathic
Infectious - s.aureus, strep
AI - RA, SLE
Meds - NSAIDs, Abx
Describe the appearance of cutaneous vasculitis?
Red/pink macule and papules which develop into non-blanching palpable purpura,
There may be small vesicles, pustules and shallow ulcers
It typically resolves within weeks with hyperpigmentation
What systemic symptoms may occur in cutaneous vasculitis?
Mild fever
Myalgia
Arthralgia
General malaise
How is cutaneous vasculitis managed?
Treatment of underlying condition
Supportive care - compression, elevation, topical corticosteroids
If severe consider - oral corticosteroids, colchicine, dapsone and immunosuppressants
