Cutaneous Nerves of Upper Limb Flashcards
C5 nerve supplies
arm laterally (i.e., superior aspect of abducted limb)
C3 and C4 supply
Region at base of neck, extending laterally over shoulder
C6 nerve supplies
forearm laterally and the thumb
C7 nerve supplies
middle and ring fingers (or middle three fingers) and the middle of the posterior surface of the limb
Posterior cutaneous nerve of arm (C5-C8)
branch of radial nerve, supplies skin on the posterior surface of the arm
Posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm (C5-C8)
branch of radial nerve, supplies the skin on the posterior surface of the forearm
Superior lateral cutaneous nerve of arm (C5, C6)
terminal branch of axillary nerve, emerges from beneath the posterior margin of the deltoid to supply the skin over the lower part of this muscle and on the lateral side of the midarm
Inferior lateral cutaneous nerve of arm (C5, C6)
branch of radial nerve, supplies skin over the inferolateral aspect of arm; frequently a branch of the posterior cutaneous nerve of forearm
Lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm (C6, C7)
terminal branch of muscutaneous nerve, supplies skin on lateral side of forearm
Medial cutaneous nerve of arm (C8-T2)
arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus, often uniting in the axilla with the lateral cutaneous branch of the second intercostal nerve - it supplies skin on medial side of arm
Intercostobrachial nerve (T2)
lateral cutaneous branch of second intercostal nerve, also contributes to the innervation of the skin on the medial surface of the arm
Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm (C8, T1)
arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus and supplies the skin on the anterior and medial surfaces of the forearm
