Cutaneous Nerves of Upper Limb Flashcards
What region does the C5 nerve supply?
The arm laterally
What region do the C3 and C4 nerves supply?
The region at the base of the neck, extending laterally over the shoulder.
What region does the C6 nerve supply?
The forearm laterally and the thumb
What region does the C7 nerve supply?
The middle and ring fingers and the middle posterior surface of the limb
What region does the C8 nerve supply?
The little finger, the medial side of the hand, and the forearm
What region does the T1 nerve supply?
The middle of the forearm to the axilla
What region does the T2 nerve supply?
A small part of the arm and the skin of the axilla
What is the segmental innervation of the supraclavicular nerves?
C3, C4
What is the course of the supraclavicular nerves?
They pass anterior to the clavicle and deep to the platysma
What region do the supraclavicular nerves supply?
The skin over the clavicle and the superolateral aspect of the pectoralis minor
What is the segmental innervation of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm?
C5-C8
What is the origin of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm?
It is a branch of the radial nerve
What region does the posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm supply?
Supplies the skin on the posterior surface of the arm
What is the segmental innervation of the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
C5-C8
Where does the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm originate?
It is a branch of the radial nerve
What region does the posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm supply?
Skin on the posterior surface of the forearm
What is the segmental innervation of the superior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm?
C5, C6
Where does the superior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm originate?
It is a terminal branch of the axillary nerve that emerges from beneath the posterior margin of the deltoid
What region does the superior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm supply?
Skin over the lower part of the deltoid and on the lateral side of the midarm
What is the segmental innervation of the inferior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm?
C5, C6
Where does the inferior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm originate?
It is a branch of the radial nerve
What region does the inferior lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm supply?
Skin over the inferolateral aspect of the arm
What is the segmental innervation of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
C6, C7
What is the origin of the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
It is a terminal branch of the musculocutaneous nerve
What region does the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm supply?
Skin on the lateral side of the forearm
What is the origin of the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm?
It arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus (often unites in axilla with lateral cutaneous branch of the 2nd intercostal nerve)
What region does the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm supply?
Skin on the medial side of the arm
What is the segmental innervation of the intercostobrachial nerve?
T2
What is the origin of the intercostobrachial nerve?
A lateral cutaneous branch of the 2nd intercostal nerve
What region does the intercostobrachial nerve supply?
Skin on the medial surface of the arm
What is the segmental innervation of the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
C8, T1
What is the origin of the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm?
Arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus
What region does the medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm supply?
Skin on the anterior and medial surfaces of the forearm
What is the segmental innervation of the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm?
C8-T2
