stasis dermatitis -lower extremity edema
also: erythema, hyperpigmentation, xerosis, pruritis, ulcerations

pyoderma gangrenosum-inflammatory on infectious ulcer, worsened by trauma
dx: must rule out other ulcers

-Acanthosis Nigricans-velvety darkening of skin posterior neck mainly, also armpits
associated with diabetes
-hyperpigmentation palmar creases and gums in association with addison’s disease (e.g. JFK)
What skin findings are associated with IVD use and bacterial endocarditis infections?
- Janeway lesions -painless septic emboli of bacterial endocarditis
- Osler nodes -tender immune complex deposition, painful
- splinter hemmorrhage on fingernails
What skin findings are associated with strep throat?
Erythema nodosum - non specific panniculitis- inflammation of fat, bruise like lesions on shin
What skin findings are associated with lupus?
Malar rash- butterfly rash
Raynaud’s -fingers turn colors in cold from white to blue to bright red
Discoid Lupus -hair
What skin findings are associated with dermatomyositis?
- heliotrope rash around the eyes
- shawl sign-a diffuse, flat, erythematous lesion over the back and shoulders or in a “V” over the posterior neck and back or neck and upper chest
- gottron’s sign on knees and elbows
- Gottrons papules on the hands
- dilated capillary loops around nail beds
- muscle with increased CK
- should be screened for malignancy can be paraneoplastic phenomenon
What skin findings are associated with malignancy such as breast cancer?
E.g. metastatic adenocarcinoma of the breast - cutaneous metastases. most commonly of breast, colon, ovarian, lung for women. Lung, colon, melanoma, oral SCC for men.
What skin findings are associated with glucagonoma?
Necrolytic migratory erythema. Annular rash in skin folds.

- severe seborrheic dermatitis
- severe herpes simplex
- molluscum contagiosum
- verruca vulgaris HPV
- Karposi’s sarcoma HHV 8
