What is the triad pathogenesis of acne.

A

-Androgen stimulation of sebaceous glands  sebum Acne begins after sebum secretion increases in puberty -Hyperkeratosis of follicular lining Formation of keratinous plug (comedone)  dilation and rupture of lower portion of follicle -P. acnes breaks down sebum to form FFA’s Chemotactic to WBC’s  inflammation

How is acne treated?

A

Treat one or more of the following: 1. Comedogenesis/follicle obstruction 2. Excessive Sebum 3. Proprionibacterium acnes 4. Inflammation
