Custodial Sentencing Flashcards
Rehabilitate Point
When a prisoner is recarneated, they are effectively helped to cope with the outside world once they have finished their sentence, this is an attempt to prevent them from committing another crime.

Very uneffective
Punishment point
Prisons aim to make inmates lives tough because they have made their victums lives difficult. However some people would argue that prisoners have too many luxuries making prisons too soft.

Berwyn Prison- Prisoners are given £1k a month to spend on luxuries such as DVDs, and other electronic items for example.
Punishment Balance Point
Despite luxuries prisoners have a tough time behind bars and often suffer from mental illnesses while in prison (which is often caused by not being able to see family and friends)

Eval Punishment
Effective but some may argue too effective
