Current electricity Flashcards
What is electric current?
The rate of flow of electric charge
What is potential difference?
The amount of electrical work done, per unit charge flowing through a component.
What is EMF(electromotive force)
The amount of electrical work done per unit charge by a power supply, such as a cell in an electrical circuit
What is resistance and what is a superconductor?
- The opposition of the conductor to the electrical current flowing through it.
- a material whose resistance drops to 0 below a specific temperature
what is ohms law
a law stating that electric current is proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistance
What is an ohmic conductor
a conductor that obeys Ohms law
What is a thermistor?
a component whose resistance varies with temperature. Most thermistors are NTC(negative temperature coefficient) which means their resistance decreases as temperature increases.
