Current Electricity Flashcards
factors that affect resistance
Length - if the length goes up, resistance increases
Cross-Sectional area
if the wire is thicker, the resistance increases
tempurature
if the tempurature is high, then the resistance increases
type of metal used
some metals are just better tbh
copper is good
what is ohms law?
I = V\R
I = current (a)
V = potential difference (v)
R = resistance (ohms)
how do you generate electricity
heat –> steam –> turbines –> generator
what can we use to produce heat
renewable and nonrenewable resources
what are the renewable resources
solar
hydro
geothermal
wind
tidal wavess
biomass
feul cells
what are the nonrenewable resources
fossil feuls (coal, oil, gas)
neucleur
dry cell vs battery
dry cells are il
batteries ar emore than one dry cell
pros and cons of hydro
PROS
- no air/water pollution
CONS
- building dams use concrete, steel,
specialized machinery, and fossil fuels
- expensive for taxpayers and the environment
- not a lot of suitable locations (Ontario has a lot tho so its ok)
pros and cons of tidal
PROS
- no pollution
CONS
- only opperate if there is a wave (what if there isn’t?) ((station is on for 5h and off for 7h))
- Ontario tides are okay tho
- only generate near costal area
