Curitiba- Brazil Flashcards
How is water conserved?
In East Village, water recycling works by rainwater draining form roofs and pavements into a water way that flows downhill. This then drains into a pond which is naturally filtered by reed beds. The water is pumped back uphill and used for toilets and watering crops.
How is energy conserved?
A combined heat and power system from a CHP station.
Burns biomass which heats up the water. It’s pumped underground to the villages and their boilers. Eventually the water cools and it is pumped back to the CHP station to be re-heated.
