Cumulative Fundamentals Flashcards
What 5 values are given on a CBC?
- RBC
- Hgb
- Hct
- Platelet count
- WBC
Purpose of RBC
- Transport O2, nutrients
RBC values:
Male and Female
- M: 4.7-6.1
- F: 4.2-5.4
Low RBC indicates
- Anemia
- Low oxygenation
- Presents as fatigue/weakness
High RBC indicates
- O2 deficientcy
- Sleep apnea
- Pulmonary fibroses
- Kidney disease
Purpose of Hemoglobin?
Binds and carries O2 in RBC
Hgb Values:
Female and Male
- Female: 12-16 g/dL
- Male: 14-18 g/dL
Low Hgb indicates
Anemia
High Hgb indicates
Polycythemia (elevated red blood cell count)
Purpose of Hermatocrit?
Shows percentage (concentration) of RBC in blood
Hct Values:
Female and Male
- Female: 37%-47%
- Male: 42%-52%
Low Hct indicates
Fluid overload
High Hct indicates
Dehydration
Purpose of Platelets
major player in blood clotting/hemostasis
Platelet normal range
150-400K
Low platelet count indicates
decreased clotting
High platelet count indicates
Increased risk of blood clot
White Blood Cell purpose
Fight infection
WBC Normal Range
5-10K
Low WBC indicates
Decreased ability to fight infection
High WBC indicates
Infection present
What are the 7 values given on a Metabolic Panel?
- Na
- K
- Cl
- CO2
- BUN
- Glucose
- Creatinine
