Women’s March on Versailles

A

Women would march 12 miles to Versailles to protest the insane prices and perpetual lack of bread (but men also rallied). Lowest rungs of society would all gather. There was a rumor that Marie Antoinette was hoarding bread. An angry, armed mob demanded social change, National Guard of Paris would contain the middle class. they wanted to keep the social structures. The army consisted of agrarian peasants who sided with the mob.
