What is Material Culture?
Material culture is everything that is a part of our constructed environment, such as books, fashion, and monuments
What is Symbolic Culture (Non Material Culture)?
Nonmaterial culture encompasses values, beliefs, behaviors, and social norms
- 5 elements: symbols, language, norms, values, and beliefs
What is Cultural Lag?
Cultural lag is the time gap between the appearance of a new technology and the words and practices that give it meaning
Ex. Cell phone manners, self driving cars, 23 and me, and zoom
What is Subcultures?
Subcultures differentiate themselves from the wider culture through symbolic and material means, often adapting and repurposing existing cultural goods for new purposes
What is Fan Culture?
Fan culture, or fandom: Describes communities build around a shared enjoyment of an aspect of a specific culture
What is Cultural integration?
A minority group within a given society adopts aspects of the dominant culture through either cultural diffusion or adapting to another societies social norms while retaining their original culture.
What is Cultural Leveling?
The process by which different cultures approach each other as a result of travel and communication and become more and more alike.
What is Culture?

What Is Acculturation?
Assimilation to a different culture; typically the dominant one
