Q

cultural relativism 1

A

we have no moral obligations, only moral codes that are imposed by our cultures

argument: since different cultures have different moral codes, there is no singular definition to what is morally right and wrong (is a matter of opinion and opinion depends on culture) and since there is a wide variation between cultures moral facts cannot exist

arguments against cultural relativism 1

A

just because there is wide variation in belief does not mean that there are no objective facts (scientists had differing ideas about whether light was a particle or wave but everyone knew that light existed)

Q

arguments against cultural relativism 2

A

interconnecting cultures (what is your culture? american? college student? you have multiple cultures which may have conflicting moral rules)
anti-isolationism: just because a culture says something is morally right does not mean it is morally right for everyone
improvement: under cr2 moral reformers are always wrong, but that is not true.
