What is cross-culture psychology?
- Studying similarities or differences across two or more different cultural groups
- Concerned with how culture influences or affects psychological processes, and identifying commonalities or contrasts.
Describe the difference between individualism v collectivism cultures
Self is seen as separate from others v self as being defined in relation to others
What does acculturation mean?
changes that occur when you shift from one cultural context to another.
If you moved from one culture to another what would it be if you:

what is the definition of ethnocentrism?
Tendency for one to use their own culture to judge others’ culture.
i.e. your life style is the norm, others’ way of life is strange
What is a stereotype?
Generalised view of social groups to inform how we understand and view those around us
What is prejudice?
Negative idea of other groups
What is discrimination?
Manifestation of prejudiced attitudes
What is racism?
assumption that one group is superior to others
What is Cultural psychology?
focussing on a specific cultural group
