Why do people stay in cults?
they are isolated from society and controlled to be dependent on the group and its leaders
What does the BITE model stand for?
Behaviour, Information, Thought, and Emotion control
Information Control (BITE)
minimizes outside influence and reduces public resources/information
Thought Control (BITE)
forcing belief that cult life is reality by using thought-controlling language and hypnosis
Behaviour Control (BITE)
regulation of daily routines, dictating associations, and maltreatment
Emotion Control (BITE)
manipulating feelings by using guilt, fear, and shame (torment of shunting)
Why do people join cults?
-people are born into a cult so it is all they ever know
-strong need to belong
-desire for meaning
