Median N.
Cubital fossa boundaries
Superior: medial and lateral epicondyles
Medial: pronator teres m.
Lateral: brachioradialis
Floor: brachialis and supinator
Roof: brachial and antebrachial fascia and bicipital aponeurosis
Pronator Teres Muscle
O: medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
I: middle of lateral surface of radius
Inn: medial n.
Actions: pronates and flexes forearm
Flexor Carpi Radialis muscle
O: Medial epicondyle of humerus
I: base of 2nd metacarpal
Inn: median n.
Actions: flexes and ABducts the hand (towards the radius)
Palmaris Longus muscle
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Inn: median n.
Actions: flexes hand and tenses palmar aponeurosis
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris Muscle
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: pisiform, hook of hamate, and 5th metacarpal
Inn: ulnar n.
Actions: flexes and ADducts the hand (moves it towards the ulnar)
Flexor digitorum superficialis muscle
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: middle phalanges of digits 2-5
Inn: median n.
Actions: flexes digits 2-5 and weakly flexes the hand
Medial epicondylitis
Golfer’s elbow or baseball elbow
History of repetitive stress, pain with restricted pronation or flexion of wrist
Ulnar n.
Flexor digitrorum profundus muscle
O: proximal 3/4 of medial and anterior surfaces of ulna and interosseous membrane
I: Base of distal phalanges of digits 2-5
Inn: Anterior interosseous n. from median n. and ulnar n.
Actions: flexes digits 2-5 and flexes the wrist
Flexor pollicis longus muscle
O: anterior surface of radius and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: Base of distal phalanx of pollex
Inn: anterior interosseous n. from median n.
Actions: flexes pollex and weak flexion of the wrist
Pronantor quadratus muscle
O: distal 1/4 anterior surface of ulna
I: distal 1/4 anterior surface of radius
Inn: anterior interosseous n. from median n.
Actions: pronates forearm, deep fibers bind radius and ulna
Arteries of the forearm
Radial a. passes along lateral aspect of forearm
Ulnar a. passes along medial aspect of forearm
Radial artery branch
Radial recurrent artery
Ulnar artery branches
Anterior ulnar recurrent a.
Posterior ulnar recurrent a.
Common interosseous a. gives rise to anterior interosseous and posterior interosseous artery
Nerves of the anterior forearm
Median n. - anterior interosseous n. and palmar branch
Ulnar n. - dorsal and palmar branch
Radial n. - superficial and deep branch
Myotome and Tendon testing
C6 - elbow flexion
C7 - Elbow extension
C8 - ulnar deviation
Carpal tunnel
Median nerve is compressed. The transverse carpal ligaments compresses the medial nerve through the carpal tunnel
Bad typing form and common in pregnancy
