What is primary anti-phospholipid Ab syndrome (APS)?
without SLE (have only APS)
What is secondary APS?
APS with SLE
What are the 3 Abs associated with APS?
Anti-cardiolipin Abs (aCL), lupus anticoagulant (LA), beta 2 glycoprotein 1 (anti-beta2 GPI)
What are anti-cardiolipin Abs (aCL)?
Cause biologic false positive tests for syphilis
Non-treponemal tests (RPR and VRDL)
Due to cross reactivity
What are lupus anti-coagulants (LA)?
Sort of a misnomer
In vivo = procoagulant
In vitro - prolongs clotting times (PTT), not corrected by adding normal platelet free plasma
What is the treatment for APS?
indefinite systemic anti-coagulation
