Csf & V Part 5 Flashcards
Pre Hydrocephalus
Patient develops
1: Dementia
2: Gait abnormalities
3: urinary incontinence
Normal pressure Hydrocephalus
In Normal pressure hydrocephalus, drainage and arechnoide villi are impaired. The cause is some patients had past head injury, during that injury patient develop some meningial hemorrhage, dura matter develops some hemorrhage, which lead to lot of rbcs stuck into villi and then villi heal by fibrouses and drainage system is impaired which results in shrinking of brain . In this situation patient starts wobling , patient is wet and also mental function is disturbed.
Hydrocephalus Ex vacuo
It’s not a true hydrocephalus
In this case cuadate nucleus undergoes degeneration and the size of ventricle enlarges.
Pseudo tumor cerebri
In this case young obese woman come with clinical features as if they have a tumor in their cerebral hemisphere but when we check there is no tumor.
In this case they have high CSF pressure
They have papilla dima
Their vision is progressively reducing
Queken Stedts sign
This sign is positive when vertebral column subarechnoid space is blocked. This sign is said to be positive when we are doing lumber puncture and we are measuring the csf pressure and we block the jugular vein, the csf pressure does not elevate.
Blood Brain Barrier
A barrier produced by the very tight relationship between thế endothelial cells of cerebral capillaries/ CNS capillaries and they do not allow plasma proteins orr any molecule which is more than 60 thousand units.
