Ethmoid fractures that disrupt the dura and arachnoid leading to CSF leakage

Tumour

What does nasal CSF discharge test positive for?
A
Glucose

What does CSF uniquely contain?
A
Beta 2 (tau) transferrin

How is it managed?
A
Conservative has high spontaneous resolution - 7-10 bed rest head elevated 15-30 degrees +/- lumbar drain
Avoid coughing, sneezing, nose blowing
Cover with antibiotics and pneumococcal vaccination
