Define the Analytical strength - how do you meet it?
You seek and analyse information to inform decisions based on best available evidence.
Example: when asked to map technology sectors in the UK I knew of good polygon and postcode data which could be combined to pinpoint firms.
Define the Decisive strength - how have you employed this?
You use your judgement and take a considered approach to situations and task when making decisions.
Example: my role is multidisciplinary and juggles plenty work. Each day I’m having to decide the best use of my time based on workload, deadlines, importance, etc.
Define the Preventer strength - how have you met this?
You think ahead to anticipate, identify, and address and risks or problems before they occur.
Example: When working for the SME brief long hub I saw their initial dashboard ask was too much - anticipating the work would not get done - I offered a reasonable alternative.
Define Problem Solver - how have you met this:
You take a positive approach to tackling problems and find ways to identify suitable solutions.
Example: The SME thing was a problem and I identified the solution - less complex Excel version that met key success criteria and was easier to implement and manage.
Define Adaptable - how do you meet this?
You can adapt to variations in work or environment and your effectiveness isn’t impacted by change.
Example: My work requires juggling a lot - over five key analytical areas. I often get emails throughout the day which I shift focus to answer and note down details before moving back to what I was doing.
Define Courageous - how do you meet this?
Someone who isn’t afraid to work outside their comfort zone.
Example: I volunteered to talk at the end of year ISSI meeting which had over 200 attendees. I used to be awful at public speaking but I’ve pushed myself.
Define Change Agent - how have you met this?
You are a positive for supporting others through change.
Example: You supported the ESNM directorate in improving their bonus system all the while ensuring them the work and output was worth it.
Define Improver - how have you met that?
You look for better ways of doing things.
Example: I learned R and look to automate processes where possible.
Define Resilient - how do you meet this?
You have inner composure and recover quickly from setbacks to learn from them.
Example: After I finished a big bit of work at UKRI I dropped the ball for a week. I was lightly reprimanded and made sure to keep pace with emails from then on.
Define Authentic - how do you meet this?
You are self-aware in all situations, even when under pressure.
Example: I don’t see a need in forcing a facade - I’ll ask questions if need be and won’t pretend I know something when I don’t.
Define Emotionally Intelligent - how do you meet this?
You draw insight from your own emotions to demonstrate empathy.
Example: I helped Nada with the IDT when I left. She felt pressured and I knew that feeling from the group so set up informal chats while she got settled.
Define Explainer - how do you meet this?
Key thing is you simplify ideas.
Example: You’ve talked through R code before to the BG team and explained Kernel Density Estimation with the 2D histogram analogy.
Define Inclusive - how do you meet this?
Recognises individual worth and expertise regardless of uncontrollable characteristics.
Example: when hosting meetings I always make sure to check round the room and see if anyone has input before moving on.
Define Influencer - how do you meet this?
You influence others and provide rationale to get others on your side.
Example: I used my knowledge of Excel and advice from dashboard experts to influence the SME insights team into a less complex idea.
Define Confident - how do you meet this?
You take charge of situations, people, and decisions. You communicate effectively.
Example: I gave direction to my colleague in the SME insights work that it was better suited we split the work in terms of analysis and QA as the task wasn’t big enough for two people to juggle.
