SME Insights and Engagement team were struggling with fast-pace briefings.
I volunteered for their request on producing a dashboard to monitor workflow.
How did you initiate the project?
I organised a meeting with the primary stakeholder to outline the projects scope and deadline.
The initial plan was too ambitious - how did you handle that?
I requested time to reflect,
Spoke with experts who confirmed hunch the ask was too much.
After confirming the initial ask was too much what did you do?
Meet with the stakeholder the next day and explained my findings.
Next day to keep pace.
Did you offer an alternative?
Yes - an Excel-based alternative was suitable as it could meet the success criteria.
I mapped the success criteria to specific bits of Excel knowledge to convince them.
How did you communicate the pushback message?
I made sure to use positive language - did not diminish initial idea.
Focused on Excel benefits rather than the negatives of the other idea.
What was the result?
The proposed method was accepted and development has been smooth.
