UDT etiology

A

30% of premature babies

Testis are intrinsically abnormal

Hormonal lack of testosterone surge to help descent

Mechanical: asso with prune belly syndrome.

A
Malignancy 5-10X more likely

Definitions of UDC, retractile testis and ectopic.

A

Retractile= normally descended testis which are displaced upwards via cremaster muscle spasm. Therefore can always be put back into scrotum.

UDT= arrested along normal descent path.

Ectopic= has passed through inguinal canal and then has deviated fro, normal line of descent to lie outside scrotum.
