Crtical Path Key terms Flashcards
Forward Pass
An additive move through the network from start to finish
Backward Pass
A subtractive move through the network from finish to start
Critical Path
The longest path from end to end which determines the shortest project length
Rules for forward pass
– ES + Duration = EF
– EF of predecessor = ES of successor
– Largest preceding EF at a merge point becomes EF for successor
Rules for backward pass
- LF - Duration = LS
- LS of successor = LF of predecessor
- Smallest succeeding LS at a burst point LF for predecessor
Merge activity
An activity with two or more immediate predecessors
Burst activity
An activity with two or more immediate successors
Float
The amount of time an activity may be delayed from its early start without delaying the finish of the project
Critical Path
The path through project network with the longest duration
Critical Path Method
A network analysis technique to determine the shortest project duration
Resource limited schedule
Start and finish dates reflect expected resource availability
Serial activities
Those that flow from one to the next, in sequence
Concurrent Activities
When the nature of work allows the completion of two or more activities at the same time, they are concurrent activities
