What is the pathophysiology behind croup?
A
Viral laryngotracheobronchitis –> mucosal inflammation affecting anywhere from nose to lower airway
- -> Inflammed vocal cords
- -> Narrowed trachea

Most common causative agent of croup?
A
Parainfluenza virus

Signs and symptoms of croup?
A
Barking cough Stridor Hoarse voice Wheeze Signs of respiratory distress 12-48 hours of prodromal symptoms i.e cough, rhinorrhoea, fever

Treatments for croup?
A
Mild/Moderate –> oral dexamethasone (0.15mg/kg)
Severe –> Oral dex + Nebulised adrenaline (1 in 1000)
