Crossctional Researcg Flashcards
Crossectional studies - what are they?
method that compares two different groups based on similar factors at one point in time. Such studies have to use representative sampling procedures in order to establish validity and reliability. Such studies can measure the rate of specific conditions or elements and establish correlations between them.
What are there aims?
Their aim is to appreciate changes over a period of time; however, their results are based on observations at one particular time.
STRENGTHS of crossectional data
Relatively quick to conduct.
Researchers can collect all variables at one time.
Multiple outcomes can be researched at once.
Prevalence for all factors can be measured.
Suitable for descriptive analysis.
Researchers can use it as a springboard for further research.
What are the 2 types of cross-sectional studies?
Descriptive research
Analytical research
Descriptive research
A cross-sectional study may be entirely descriptive. A cross-sectional descriptive survey assesses how frequently, widely, or severely the variable of interest occurs throughout a specific demographic.
Analytical research
Analytical cross-sectional research investigates the association between two related or unrelated parameters. This methodology isn’t entirely foolproof, though, because outside variables and outcomes are simultaneous, and their studies are, too.
LIMITATIONS of crossectional studies
Fhgcg
Cross-sectional VS longitudinal research
In cross-sectional studies, researchers collect the variables at a particular point in time. Longitudinal studies span multiple sessions, and the variables could change.
Researchers prefer cross-sectional studies to find common points between variables. Still, they use longitudinal studies due to their nature, to dissect the research from the cross-sectional study further.
