- Make a distinction between sex & gender because the way societies perceive masculinity & femininity differ.
- Culture determines how biological differences are interpreted & how gender is culturally constructed
- Many cultures accept “third gender” or “two spirit” where they are recognised as a distinct group with valuable & necessary roles in society
