Critical appraisal Flashcards
Three things a hypothesis should include/be
justified by literature, precise, include direction of prediction
when should you defo have a hypothesis
when comparing groups
difference between cross sectional and longitudinal design?
cross sectional one moment in time longitudinal ver time
what should be considered when analysing sampling
need dates, country, if in patients/ outpatients etc.
need to justify sample size using power calculations
must state how recruited and response rates
diff between objective and subjective
objective- able to be observed or counted
subjective - subject to interpretation
1) describe concurrent and predictive validity
2) which type are they?
1) concurrent means it correlates with other validated measures e.g. another scale. predictive validity - how much can the test predict its outcomes
2) criterion validity
describe convergent validity and divergent validity
