Permission - they believed they had consent or they own property (not jointly)
Protection - E.g. gas leak next door.
When is criminal damage a summary only offence?
When damage totals less than £5000

Incapable of being repaired and must be replaced

What is aggravated damage?
Destroying or damaging property belonging to himself or another AND
Intending to do so, or being reckless to the fact AND
Intending or being reckless by this destruction to endanger the life of someone else
