❌- only covers reported crimes so inaccurate numbers of how many crimes occur.

Face to face survey where people are asked about their experience with crime.
✅- covers crimes that haven’t been reported so gives a more accurate representation of the amount of crime. (uncovers the dark figure of crime)
Recorded 50% more crimes than we’re reported to the police.
❌- doesn’t survey all crime eg against buisness’ and less serious crimes.
❌- People may exaggerate or lie if they’re offender or feel embarrassed if they’re a victim.
❌- they may not realise they’re a victim of crime eg white collar and corporate crimes
