define ‘action’:
a thing that is done
define ‘intention’:
an aim or plan which prompts actions.
define ‘evil’:
extremely unpleasant or immoral.
define ‘hate crime’:
crimes, often violent, which usually target a person because of their race, religion, sexuality, disability, or gender.
define ‘judicial system’:
the system of courts that interprets and applies the law in the name of the government.
define ‘retribution’:
an aim of punishment - to get your own back, ‘an eye for an eye’.
define ‘deterrence’:
an aim of punishment - to put people off committing crimes.
define ‘reformation’:
an aim of punishment - to change someone’s behaviour for the better.
define ‘justice’:
judgement of persons by the judicial process, such as a court.
define ‘forgiveness’:
showing mercy, to grant a pardon to someone.
define ‘capital punishment’ (A.K.A. the Death Penalty):
the execution of a criminal by the government. in most countries this happens by lethal injection.
define ‘corporal punishment’:
physical punishment - NOT DEATH. in some countries, if you are caught stealing, your fingers may be cut off.
