A
Crime is a act forbidden by criminal law and is punishable by the state

What is deviance?
A
Deviance is any behaviour that differs from socially acceptable behaviour (the social norm). Behaviour that most would disapprove of.

What are formal sanctions?
A
Punishments given by the state e.g prison, fines, resulting from criminal behaviour

What are informal sanctions?
A
Punishments given by society/individuals e.g laughing, pointing, staring as a result of deviant behaviour
