Crews and their Duties Flashcards
Bed Leader
Designates the tasks/marks the pieces/oversees a particular work center. Reports to the Supervisor.
Supervisor
Oversees multiple work centers. Corresponds with managers on pouring times/pouring sequence.
Bed Crews
The bulk of the employees. Crews typically work together everyday while they may change the product type they work on.
Batch Plant
This crew, housed in the structure directly in front of the opening of the plant, mixes the concrete, drives the concrete carriers, cleans said vehicles, and stocks the inventories of the aggregate.
Pouring Crew
Follows the concrete carriers as they pour the wet concrete into the bed. Ensures even distribution of concrete, smooth finish, appropriate amounts of moisture.
Wet Finish
Applies the designated finish onto the products immediately after pouring
Stripping
Facilitates the process of removing the pieces from the beds early in the morning, which involves chiseling out parts of the lifting devices, removing wooden block-outs, hooking the piece to the OHC, and then accompanying the piece to Dry Finish.
Dry Finish
Prepares stripped pieces for sandblasting or storage through prying out smaller block-outs, cutting ends of strand, grinding excess concrete, or installing post-pour materials (if necessary).
Loading
Carries product from place to place using the Mi-Jack. “Swampers” essentially follow a Mi-Jack driver and hook/unhook the pieces at various locations throughout the property.
Sandblast
Apply the appropriate finishes to pieces, particularly architectural ones. There is light, medium, and heavy sandblasting which correlate to the aggregate that becomes exposed upon the finish.
Acid Etch
Spraying an acidic mixture to expose the aggregate.
Quality Control
Ensure the pieces physically match their paper counterparts in all steps of the process. Measure lengths, widths, plates, corbels, haunches, etc. Responsible for tagging pieces to indicate if they are up to standards, as well as testing concrete, inputting data, corresponding with the batch plant, etc.
Steel Shop
Handles the cutting, bending, welding, and distribution of all rebar, plates, assemblies, and essentially anything else involving steel.
Carpentry
Handles all wood and Styrofoam for block=outs, headers, etc. they also precut insulation and form-liner.
Warehouse
Organizes, distributes, and assembles materials such as lifting devices, brick, chucks, etc.
