The Face
a metaphor for a whole
person. This is where ethical responsibility comes in. When encountering another person, we see them as a face that deserves ethical treatment.
the face:
This responsibility is infinite because it goes beyond our self interest
This responsibility is naturally inclined to us humans. this should not be explicitly said. this has been given to us which means it is not caused by our rationality
Ethical Responsibility towards the OTHER
● We have this responsibility because the other person is also a being and has needs.
● does not impose reciprocity or something in return.
