Olfactory Nerve
I- Allocortex. note olfactory bulb
O- Nasal cavity in respratory epithelium through the cribiform plate
Sensory information
Detects smell
Optic Nerve
O- retinal cells of the eye
I- Visual cortex via LGB. Allocortex
Sensory information
Sight
Occulomotor Nerve
Origin midbrain roughly Supplies the following eye muscles. Superior rectus; medial rectus, inferior rectus, inferior oblique. Also pupil constriction Motor information
Trochlear
Supplies superior oblique muscle
Pons origin
motor
Trigeminal
BOTH motor and sensory Has 3 divisions V1, V2 and V3 Origin is pons SENSORY: V1- opthalmic, V2, maxillary, V3 mandibular Motor- muscles of mastication
Abducens
Motor
Pons
Supplies lateral rectus muscle
Facial
NB Bells Palsy
BOTH
Pons
Motor- Facial Muscles, stylohyoid and stapedius
Sensory: taste on anterior 2/3 of the tongue. also does nasal, palatine, pharyngeal and lacrimal glands
Vestibulocochlear
sensory
Arises from medulla (vestibular) and inferior cerebral peduncle (cochlear)
Responsible for hearing and balance
Glossopharyngeal
BOTH
Sensory: posterior third of tongue, pharynx and middle ear.
Motor: pharyngeal muscles, stylopharyngeus
Medullary origin
Vagus
BOTH
Medulla
Sensory: Skin of external acoustic meatus, abdominal viscera laryngopharynx and larynx
Motor: Palate, pharynx, larynx. Also heart GI tract etc
Accessory
Motor
Sternocleiodmastoid and trapezius muscles.
Medulla and spinal cord
Hypoglossal
Motor
Tongue muscles and strap muscles.
