- bolus manipulation
- sensation from mucus membranes mouth, cheek and anterior 2/3 of the tongue (not taste)
- size, viscosity, temperature, texture

Motor Innervation:
- lip closure
- buccal tone
- hyolaryngeal excursion
Sensory and Autonomic Innervation:
- taste (Taste from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue)
- salivation

MI:
- pharyngeal constriction
- hyolaryngeal excursion
SAI:
- taste and sensation (Sensation from the posterior 1/3 of tongue (including taste), the velum, the fauces and the superior portion of the pharynx)
- salivation

MI:
- velopharyngeal closure
- tongue base retraction
- pharyngeal squeeze
- airway closure
- UES closure and opening
- esophageal motility
SAI:
- sentation
- Sensory information from the velum, posterior and inferior portions of the pharynx and all sensation in the larynx
