CR And The CR Reader Flashcards

1
Q

Film base or base layer

A
  • foundation of film

- emulsion is fragile, need this base so that film can be handled and processed

Q

Emulsion

A
  • radiation sensitive and light-sensitive layer

- x-ray has film emulsion on both sides-duplitized

Q

Adhesive layer/ substratum

A
  • between the emulsion and base layer

- holds the layers together, essentially the “glue” that holds the film together

Q

Latent image formation

A
  • the image that exists on the film after the exposure, but before processing
  • film processing changes it into a visible image

Q

Intensifying screens

A
  • device found in cassettes containing phosphors that convert x-rays into light (light then exposes the radiographic film)
  • decrease pt dose (less mAs required compared to non screen film)
  • phosphor layer, active layer that converts x-rays into light
  • reflective layer: redirects light towards the film to enhance efficiency
  • pros: less dose to pt, shorter exposure times
  • cons: recorded detail on image, increased blur

Q

Digital radiography

A
  • DR (direct radiography) system utilizes detectors that directly capture and read out the electronic image signal
  • CR (computed radiography) uses phosphors within a cassette
