Cpr And Cardiac Responses Flashcards
How do you recognise an cardiac arrest or when should you carry out CPR
Unresponsive person with abnormal breathing- start CPR
Short period of seizure like movement can occur at the start of a cardiac arrest. If after the seizure the reason is unresponsive with abnormal=mal breathing do cpr
How should you alert emergency services
If there’s a bystander with you ask them to call 999 and you do cpr
If your alone then first call 999 and then carry out cpr
What are high quality chest compressions
Start soon as possible
Start compressions on lower half sternum
5cm or depth in compressions- not more that 6cm
Compression at rate of 100-120 min *-1
Allow chest to recoil completely after each compression
Perform compression on firm surface
How should you do rescue breaths
After 30 compressions provide 2 breaths
How would you find an AED
Ambulance service should have available defibileration location
Clear signs on one and also apps telling you the closest available one
How do you use an AED
Switch to AED once you have one available
Attach electrode pad onto the bare chest according to position shown by the AED
Continue cpr while pads are being attached if more then one bystander
Follow instructions given by AED
No one should touch person while AED is analysing the heart rhythm
No one should touch peron when shock given and after immediately start cpr
What are fully automatic AED
If shock indicated ARD are designed to give shock without the rescuer doing any further action like cpr afterwards
However the safety of this hasn’t been studied well
How can technology be used in cardiac arrest
Smart phones video communications and drones can assist in recognising cardiac arrest, dispatch responders and communicate to bystanders to provided assisted cpr
What to do when there’s a foreign body airway obstruction
Suspect choking if someone is unable to speak especially if eating
Encourage person to cough
If ineffective then give 5 back blows by getting person to lean forward and apply blows between shoulder blades using heel of one hand
If this is ineffective then give abdominal thrusts
Ow to give abdominal thrusts
Stand behind person and put both hands around upper part of abdomen
Lean person forward
Clench your fist and place in between umbilicus and ribcage
Grasp fist with other hand and pull sharply inwards and upwards
If person is unresponsive give cpr
What is the recovery position
Oo
