Adult CPR
Step 1: Establish that victim does not respond
Activate ERS (ER response system):
- Is victim unconscious?
- Is victim apneic or agonal?
Adult Step 2: Check pulse (>5 sec, no > 10 sec)
Carotid pulse: if no pulse, start CPR
Adult Step 3: CPR sequence
C-A-B (compressions, airway, breathing)
Ad Compression Location
Lower half of breastbone between nipples
Ad Compression Method
Heel of 1 hand, other hand on top
Ad Compression Depth
at least 2 in
Ad Compression Rate
100/min
Ad Compression: vent ratio
30:2 (1 or 2 person CPR)
Ventilations
Open airway with head tilt-chin lift and give 2 breaths after completing 30 compressions
Child CPR (1 year to puberty): Step 1: Respond?
If alone, activate ERS after giving 5 cycles of CPR
Ch Step 2: Check pulse
Carotid pulse (if no pulse or pulse < 60 bpm with S/S of poor perfusion, start CPR
