What does DRSABCD stand for?
D - danger(days). Look for danger
R - response. Check for a response from (the patient) with cows
S - send for help. Send for a first aid kit, 000 and a defibrillator
A - check (the patient)’s airways for obstructions such as vomit, blood or the tongue. Remove the obstruction and turn the patient into recovery position
B - breathing. Check for a pulse of the rise and fall of the chest
C - cpr. Begin cpr in a ratio of 30:2
D - defib. If the patient is still unresponsive, turn on the defib and follow the instructions. Place pads like a drivers seat belt
What does COWS stand for
C - can u hear me (are you near me)
O- open ur eyes
W - whats ur name
S - squeeze my hand
Why do we use COWS
This method is good because it means even a patient unable to speak can squeeze the hand or open the eyes, and it ensures that a responsive patient is always detected as such
