- 18 years old
- current private licence
- class one medical
- minimum flight time acceptable to director
- exam credits (Met, Nav, Law, Hf, ATK, POF)
- pass flight exam
What are the privileges of a CPL?
- Any PPL privileges
- Act as PIC of a aircraft certified for single pilot operation, engaged on an operation for hire or reward
- Act as PIC of a aircraft certified for multi-pilot operation, engaged on an operation for hire or reward that is not a ATO
- Act as CoP of a aircraft certified for multi-pilot operation, engaged on an operation for hire or reward
What are the limitations of a CPL?
Cannot operate as PIC or CoP at night unless an appropriately qualified instructor has certified the pilots logbook that the pilot has completed the required night flying training
What are the minimum hour requirements of a CPL?
200 TT (150 approved course of training)
100 PIC
30 XC (20 IAW CPL syllabus, 10 PIC, 10 dual)
10 IF (5 dual flight time, 5 may be in sim
5 Basic mountain flying (2 LF, 2 MF syllabus), BFM ground theory course
BFM is in addition to PPL TAWA
If wishing to exercise CPL night privileges:
10 Night (4 dual, 5 PIC including 10 t/o and ldg)
What is required to keep a CPL current?
Class 1 medical
BFR
Recent flight experience
What is classed as recent flight experience? Day and night?
Within the preceding 90 days:
DAY
- 3 day take-offs and landings as PIC (can be in approved sim)
- demonstrated day take-off/landing competency to a A/B cat instructor
- demonstrated competence for the issue of the same licence
NIGHT
- 3 night take-offs and landings as PIC (can be in approved sim)
- demonstrated night take-off/landing competency to a A/B cat instructor
(ALL must be in the same aircraft type)
What does CAR part 135 cover?
Aeroplanes with 9 or less seats, excluding required crew seats, and a MCTOW 5700kg or less, except when used for SEIR ops
How far before a check is due can you complete it and still have the due date as the recurrent date? What if you go past that date?
60 days. If it is done late, the date of completion is the new currency date.
What is an ATO?
Operation for the carriage of passengers or goods by air except a;
- CTO
- adventure aviation operation
- trial flight
- agricultural
- helicopter external load
What is a CTO
Operation for the carriage of passengers or goods by air where;
- each passenger is performing, or undergoing training to perform a duty on the op
OR - the passengers or goods are carried to or from a remote aerodrome
What airworthiness certificates are required for 135 ops?
ATO - standard
CTO - standard or, if the AFM allows it, restricted
What are the 135 requirements for a common language?
The (applicable sections) of the exposition must be written in a language that all operations personnel are able to understand
Crew members must be able to communicate in a common language, at least one FLIGHT crew member must be able to speak English
What are the 135 requirements for flight >10nm beyond gliding distance off shore?
Lift rafts sufficient to carry every occupant of the aircraft
Life jackets must be WORN (if ME can just be carried)
What is the maximum distance a 135 flight can be flown from land? Are there exceptions?
100nm, more than that requires IFR (so multi engine operations could)
What are the 135 meteorological requirements?
DAY - not less than a 1000ft agl ceiling, 5km vis
NIGHT - not less than 3000ft agl ceiling, 16km vis
When may a 135 op fly above more than scattered cloud (5-8 ocktas)?
If the aircraft is authorised for IFR, the required minimum flight crew for IFR, with current instrument ratings are operating the flight
All instruments and equipment (incl radio nav equip) required for IFR are operable
The aircraft carries radio navigation equipment to enable it to be navigated to an aerodrome where a instrument approach can be carried out
Sufficient fuel and reserves are carried to proceed to an aerodrome IFR where a instrument approach can be carried out
NEVER if SE carrying passengers
What specifications must be used when calculating take off/landing distance required 135? What if the runway is wet or contaminated?
TODR must not be > 85% TODA
LDR must not be > 85% LDA (full stop from 50ft above threshold)
Not more than 50% of the HWC not less than 150% TWC used
If wet or contaminated the LDA must be at least 115% LDR
What documents must be carried?
FARTW +
- NOTAM/aeronautical info service briefing appropriate to the op
- met info
- notification of DGs
- copies of relevant aerodrome charts
What competency checks are required 135?
Every 12 months
- PIC route & AD check
- VFR pilots, normal and emergency check
- Written or oral exam (CARs, systems, met, nav, new equip, emergency equip use, etc)
Every 6 months
- All IFR flight crew members normal and emergency check (each a/c type unless 9 seats or less, then 1 type a cycle)
What manoeuvres are not permitted with pax 135?
Abnormal, unusual, or emergency manoeuvres, including but not limited to;
- simulated engine failure
- simulated asymmetric flight
- simulated system failure with audio or visual alert that can be over heard or seen by pax
- any system failure that can compromise safe operation of the flight
What are the maintenance requirements 135?

OR
Maintenance review
What additional equipment is required for night ops 135?

Light in each pax compartment
CTO duty limitations?
not fly >160 hours in 30 consecutive days
not have less than 2 days off in each consecutive 14 day period
not have less than 2 consecutive days off in each 30 day period
