CPA 3 - Postoperative Ileus Flashcards
What are 2 components of the Biomechanical model for Postoperative Ileus?
MFR to thoracic/lumbar SD (supine technique) - decrease tension on paraspinal muscles
MFR to surgical site - release abnormal pull/tension
What are 3 components of the Respiratory/Circulatory model for Postoperative Ileus?
Doming diaphragm - increase pressure gradient/lymphatic flow
Mesenteric release - increase lymph/venous drainage from SI and colon
Rib raising - increase lymph flow
What are 2 components of the Neurlogic model for Postoperative Ileus?
Paraspinal inhibition to T10-L2 - normalize SNS tone
Ganglion inhibition - normalize SNS tone
What are 2 components of the Metabolic/Energy model for Postoperative Ileus?
Stool softeners - increase bowel movement
Fiber supplementation
What are 2 components of the Behavioral model for Postoperative Ileus?
Limit food intake, drink liquids instead
Drink Metamucil
What is the first area to assess and what are the TART findings?
Abdomen
Tissue texture change - possible bowel impaction
Bloating, distension, erythema
Tenderness
What is the second area to assess and what are the TART findings?
Innominate
Tenderness
Asymmetry
Erythema, swelling, ecchymosis
What is the third area to assess and what are the TART findings?
Ribs
Tenderness
Asymmetry
Erythema, swelling, ecchymosis
How would you assess for an SD in the abdominal spinal levels in a Postoperative Ileus?
T10-L2 seated evaluation
How would you assess for an SD in the ribs in a Postoperative Ileus?
BLT the ribs - find restriction/ease of motion
What Tx would you use to Tx an SD in the T10-L2 spinal levels and is it an indirect or direct Tx?
ME for T10-L2
Direct
What Tx would you use to Tx an SD in the ribs and is it an indirect or direct Tx?
BLT ribs
Indirect
What is an OMM ANS Tx for a Postoperative Ileus pt?
Ganglion inhibition
What is an OMM Lymphatic Tx for a Postoperative Ileus pt?
Mesenteric release
