CPA 3 - COPD with Pneumonia Flashcards
What are 2 components of the Biomechanical model for COPD with Pneumonia?
Inhalation pump handle SD in ribs 1-6 - Tx to decrease AP diameter
BLT ribs - decrease tension on ribs
What are 2 components of the Respiratory/Circulatory model for COPD with Pneumonia?
Doming diaphragm - increase pressure gradient and lymph flow (thoracic inlet first)
Rib raising - increase lymph flow
What are 3 components of the Neurologic model for COPD with Pneumonia?
Rib raising - normalize SNS tone
Paraspinal inhibition - C3-5 = normalize SNS to diaphragm
Paraspinal inhibition - T1-6 = normalise SNS to lungs
What are 2 components of the Metabolic/Energy model for COPD with Pneumonia?
ABX to Tx pneumonia
Give O2 - increase energy supply to cells
What are 2 components of the Behavioral model for COPD with Pneumonia?
Smoking cessation (if smoking) or education Incentive spirometry - increase lung capacity
What is the first area to assess and what are the TART findings?

What is the second area to assess and what are the TART findings?
T-spine
Tenderness
Asymmetry

How would diagnose an SD of ribs 1-6 in a pt with COPD with Pneumonia?
BLT
Pump/Bucket handle ROM
How would you diagnose an SD of the T-spine in a pt with COPD with Pneumonia?
Evaluate SB/R of PTP’s in N, F, E
How would you Tx an SD of ribs 1-6 and is it an indirect or direct Tx?
ME for inhalation SD
Direct
How would you Tx an SD of the T-spine and is it an indirect or direct Tx?
MFR to T1-6
Indirect
What is an OMM ANS Tx for a pt with COPD and Pneumonia?
Paraspinal inhibition to T1-6
What is an OMM lymphatic Tx for a pt with COPD and Pneumonia?
Rib raising
*Open thoracic inlet first
