CP3F Renewable resources Flashcards
What is renewable energy
Resources that will not run out
Give four examples of renewable energy resources
1) Sold energy
2) Hydroelectricity
3) Wind turbines
4) Tidal power
What are the advantages of using renewable energy sources
Do not cause pollution or emit carbon dioxide
State two disadvantages of using renewable energy resources to generate power
Output often determined by external factors (like wind speed), so supply is uncertain
Renewable fuels often produce less energy per kg
What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy
Advantages:
They don’t cause harm to the environment
Can be used in remote areas
Disadvantages:
Not available all of the time
What is hydroelectric power and what are the advantages and disadvantages
Generated by falling water in places where water can be trapped in high reservoirs
Advantages: Available at any time
Disadvantages: Dam may cause flooding
What are wind turbines and their disadvantages
Uses wind to generate electricity.
Disadvantages: Need lots of energy and ruin landscape
What is tidal power and advantages and disadvantages
Generate electricity when dam turns tide flows into energy
Advantages: No green house gases and reliable and cheap
Disadvantages: Might effect wildlife and is not always available
